Beaujolais is a French wine that is labeled either as fun or non-serious, depending on your perspective on red wines.
Beaujolais is a light and fruity wine made from the gamay grape and comes from the region just south of Burgundy from which it is named. It is made through a process called carbonic maceration, where juice is extracted from the berry with a minimum of tannins, making it a very approachable and easy-to-drink wine. By French law, it also must be harvested by hand.
Don’t plan on setting aside a bottle for aging. Beaujolais is best consumed young and showcases its fresh fruit flavors when served slightly chilled. It’s certainly uncomplicated wine.
